1. Location

Ba Ria-Vung Tau province lies in the East to the Southern Vietnam.

It borders :

  • Long Thanh District, Long Khanh District, Xuan Loc District (of Dong Nai province ) in the North

  • Can Gio District, and Ho Chi Minh City in the East

  • Ham Tan District ( of Binh Thuan province ) in the West

  • The East sea in the South

2. Area and population

  • Total coastal line : 305.4 km

  • Total land area : 1975.14 km2

  • Population in 2001 : about 842,000 people

  • Population density :426 people/km2

3. Administrative organization

It has 7 administrative units :

  • Vung Tau City with 11 wards and 01 village

  • Ba Ria Provincial Town with 05 wards and 03 villages

  • Tan Thanh District with 01 town and 07 villages

  • Chau Duc District with 01 town and 11 villages

  • Long Dat District 02 towns and 10 villages

  • Xuyen Moc District 01 town and 11 villages

  • Con Dao District.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau has tropical monsoon

  • The rainy season : from May to October, having southwest monsoon

  • The dry season : from November to April of the following year, having northeast monsoon

  • The average annual rainfall is about 1,500 mm

Ba Ria-Vung Tau province lies in a very advantageous position, which is a gateway to the Pacific Ocean of provinces in the East to the Southern Vietnam. It converges a lot of potentials to develop quickly and thoroughly sea economy such as offshore oil and gas industry, sea ports and sea transportation, tourism, sunbathing. Due to its positive position, the province is capable of developing synchronically sea route, air route, roads, railway and tubes. It can also be the place where goods are transferred inside and outside the country.
