AGRICULTURAL BRANCH

Although the service industry occupies a great proportion, the agriculture has itself some definite strong points. According to the statistics given by the Congress of Provincial Party, the agricultural land area  is about 126,973 hectares, in which 68,500 hectares is land for growing yearly trees, and 58,473 hectares land for growing long-term trees and fruit trees. The land fund is diversified and abundant in which red basalt soil belonging to the excellent land group has an area of about 64,000 hectares suitable to develop perennial industrial trees and plants such as rubber, coffee, cashew, pepper, fruit trees, maize, cassava, etc. Agricultural products of the whole province in the year of 2001 and in the next year 2002 have been estimated as follows :

The infrastructure for agricultural development in the province is quite  satisfactory. To the year of 2000, the province has 39 hydraulic projects of which 19 reservoirs, 14 dams with a capacity of water containing of 57 million cubic meters, 3 drainage canals, 2 anti salt water dykes, etc. All villages have been equipped with electricity network, asphalt roads, and telecommunication lines. The proportion of rural household users of electricity is 87%, of clean water 75%.

In spite of having potentialities to develop agriculture, large areas specializing in cultivation have not been formed yet, the production has not closely synchronized with the processing and consumption market yet. The processing industry is still weak. The breeding still occupies a small proportion, so the agricultural efficiency is still low. In order to overcome weak points mentioned above, and speed up the agricultural branch, a number of orientations of calling for investment in the agriculture in the future are as follows :

  • Priority to develop to the agriculture by producing goods, forming areas specializing in cultivation with great output or high quality, e.g. industrial tree area, fruit tree area, vegetables, flowers, crops and rice areas. Pay attention to farm development and big production households to achieve the targets.

  • Increase the breeding in the agricultural production by concentrating on 3 main animals : pigs, chicken, and cows.

  • Create favorable conditions for various economic sectors to invest more in agricultural processing, especially applying the new technology in processing the agricultural products, raising the product value, creating competition on the market to facilitate the consumption.

A number of fields and projects calling for investment in the agriculture in the near future :

  • Food processing projects for human beings and animals using raw materials from maize, maize powder, soya bean, peanut, cassava.

  • Rubber processing projects using raw materials from natural rubber exploited in the province.

  • Coffee preserving and processing projects using new technology.

  • Fruit tree growing and processing projects to produce fruit juice, canned fruit, dries fruit, fruit for export, etc.

  • Industrial salt processing projects.

  • Projects to breed and kill for food, preserve and process meat of pigs, cows, chicken, and poultry.

  • Projects to grow and preserve vegetables and flowers, using new technology, e.g. preserving vegetables in the vacuum.

Projects to develop water conservancy.
